Opening on April 20, 1993, Kumba is a legendary steel sitting coaster that transformed Busch Gardens Tampa Bay into a world-class thrill destination. Manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), the ride was a massive $10 million investment that debuted with several world records, including the tallest vertical loop at the time. Standing 143 feet tall and reaching speeds of 60 mph, the coaster is famous for its thunderous “roar”—a signature sound created by the hollow track as the trains navigate 3,978 feet of vibrant teal and orange steel. Named after the Kikongo word for “roar,” the experience features seven inversions, including a massive 114-foot vertical loop that famously wraps around the lift hill, a dive loop, a zero-G roll, and a set of interlocking corkscrews.
