Opening on May 16, 1996, Montu is a massive steel inverted coaster that solidified Busch Gardens Tampa Bay’s reputation as a world-class thrill destination. Manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, the ride was the tallest (150 feet) and fastest (60 mph) inverted coaster in the world at the time of its debut. Named after the Egyptian god of war, the attraction features an elaborate Egyptian excavation theme and a sprawling 3,983-foot layout that includes seven inversions—most notably a massive 104-foot vertical loop and a rare Immelmann loop. The experience is famous for its high-G-force maneuvers and several “trench” elements where the track dives below ground level, providing intense near-miss sensations as riders’ feet dangle just inches from the limestone walls.
