Opening on February 28, 2004, as Cheetah Chase, the ride later renamed SandSerpent was a classic steel “Wild Mouse” coaster located in the Pantopia (formerly Timbuktu) section of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Manufactured by Mack Rides, the attraction stood 46 feet tall and reached a top speed of 28 mph over 1,214 feet of track, featuring the signature flat, unbanked “hairpin” turns and sudden, sharp drops characteristic of the model. Originally relocated from the defunct Williamsburg sister park (where it operated as Izzy and Wild Izzy), the ride provided a high-capacity family thrill for nearly two decades before permanently closing on July 9, 2023, to make way for the construction of the park’s first North American B&M family suspended coaster, Phoenix Rising.
