Opening on May 24, 1969, Cedar Creek Mine Ride is the second-oldest operating roller coaster at Cedar Point and served as the cornerstone for the debut of the park’s Frontiertown section. Designed by the legendary Ron Toomer and built by Arrow Development, it was one of the first “runaway mine train” concepts to feature tubular steel track on a wooden support structure. The ride is notable for using two separate lift hills, standing 48 feet tall and reaching a top speed of 42 mph over a sprawling 2,540-foot course that winds through wooded terrain and over a central lagoon. After more than 50 years and 62 million rides, it remains a beloved family staple, recently receiving updates to its station soundtrack and tunnel effects to maintain its classic “Gold Rush” charm.
