Opening on May 15, 1976, Corkscrew was a revolutionary addition to Cedar Point, debuting as the first roller coaster in the world to feature three inversions. Built by Arrow Development in honor of the U.S. Bicentennial, the ride famously features a patriotic red, white, and blue color scheme on its trains and spans directly over the park’s midway, another world-first for an inverting coaster. Standing 85 feet tall and reaching speeds of 48 mph, the experience includes a 65-foot drop, a vertical loop, and a signature double corkscrew element that has made it one of the most photographed attractions in the park. Now celebrating its 50th season in 2026, this historic landmark remains a cornerstone of the Midway, serving as a “rite of passage” for younger guests moving up to the park’s massive fleet of record-breaking steel giants.
