Opening on June 11, 1987, Iron Dragon is a historic steel suspended coaster and one of the few remaining “swinging” attractions of its kind in the world. Designed by Ron Toomer and manufactured by Arrow Dynamics, the ride features seven-car trains that hang beneath the track, allowing them to swing freely out to the sides as they navigate banked turns and tight helices. Standing 76 feet tall and reaching a top speed of 40 mph, the coaster utilizes two separate lift hills to carry riders over a 2,800-foot course that winds through wooded terrain and finishes with a signature high-speed helix over a mist-filled lagoon. While it was briefly enhanced with virtual reality in the late 2010s, it has since returned to its classic form, remaining a beloved “step-up” thrill for families and serving as the oldest operating suspended coaster of its model in existence.
