Opening on May 26, 2007, Maverick is a high-intensity “Blitz” coaster that traded record-breaking height for aggressive, low-to-the-ground maneuvers and rapid-fire elements. Manufactured by Intamin, the ride is famous for its 105-foot lift hill that features a beyond-vertical 95-degree drop, the steepest in the park. After navigating a series of high-speed banked turns and a “twisted horseshoe roll” inversion, the train enters a dark tunnel where a second LSM launch catapults riders from 0 to 70 mph in just 3 seconds. Originally designed to feature three inversions, the ride’s heartline roll was famously removed and replaced with an S-curve just before opening due to excessive stress on the trains. Despite its relatively small footprint in Frontiertown, Maverick is consistently ranked as one of the best coasters in the world for its relentless pacing, “ejector” airtime, and its ability to surprise even the most seasoned riders.
