Opening on May 13, 2000, Millennium Force is a world-renowned steel giant that famously debuted as the first “giga coaster”—a term coined for a complete-circuit roller coaster exceeding 300 feet in height. Manufactured by Intamin, the ride stands 310 feet tall and utilizes a high-speed cable lift system to whisk trains to the summit in just 20 seconds, followed by a harrowing 300-foot drop at an 80-degree angle. Reaching a top speed of 93 mph, the 6,595-foot course sends riders through three massive overbanked turns, two dark tunnels, and several high-speed airtime hills that parallel the scenic Sandusky Bay. Despite losing its “tallest and fastest” titles just months after opening to Japan’s Steel Dragon 2000, Millennium Force has remained a perennial favorite, consistently voted as the top steel coaster in the world for its relentless speed, smooth transitions, and iconic presence on the Cedar Point skyline.
