Opening on April 28, 2019, to celebrate the park’s 30th anniversary, Kentucky Flyer is a modern “junior” wooden coaster that packs a surprisingly punchy experience into a family-friendly footprint. Designed by The Gravity Group, the ride stands 47 feet tall and features a 44-foot drop at a steep 52-degree angle, reaching a top speed of 35 mph. While its statistics may seem modest, the coaster is celebrated for its relentless pacing, featuring 12 airtime moments and overbanked turns up to 54 degrees across its 1,288-foot “out and back” layout. The ride is particularly noted for its aviation-themed Timberliner trains, which are designed to look like vintage airplanes and utilize comfortable, curved lap bars that accommodate riders as short as 40 inches. Located at the back of the park near the Hurricane Bay water park, Kentucky Flyer serves as the perfect “transition” coaster for younger guests ready to move beyond the kiddie area but not quite prepared for the park’s massive steel giants.
