Opening on May 20, 2000, Road Runner Express was a vibrant steel “Wild Mouse” coaster that added a high-capacity family thrill to the Six Flags era of the park. Manufactured by Maurer Söhne, the ride featured individual four-passenger cars that navigated a series of sharp unbanked turns—creating the classic “flat” lateral G-forces the model is known for—and several quick, bunny-hop drops over a 1,213-foot course. Standing 49 feet tall and reaching a top speed of 28 mph, it occupied the former site of The Squid water slides. Following the park’s closure in 2009, it was the only coaster immediately removed by Six Flags as part of their settlement with the state; it was relocated to Six Flags New England, where it has operated as Gotham City Gauntlet: Escape from Arkham Asylum since 2011.
