Opening with the park on May 23, 1987, Starchaser was an enclosed steel coaster that provided a dark, high-speed journey through the stars. This Anton Schwarzkopf “Jet Star” model was one of the only attractions to remain on-site after the park’s initial 1987 bankruptcy, allowing it to be repurchased and reopened by Ed Hart in 1990. Known for its tight, intense spirals and lack of traditional restraints (relying on deep-bucket seating), the ride was ultimately closed in 1995 following a collision incident that led to its removal from the park. The coaster was later relocated to Six Flags Darien Lake and eventually Great Escape, while its original building at Kentucky Kingdom was repurposed and currently serves as the park’s 5D Theater.
