Opening in 1990 as the flagship addition for the park’s first revival, Vampire was a classic Vekoma Boomerang that brought high-intensity inversions to the Louisville skyline. The ride utilized a shuttle-style layout where a cable lift pulled the train backward up a 116-foot spike before releasing it forward through a cobra roll and a vertical loop. After cresting a second spike, the train repeated the entire sequence in reverse, subjecting riders to a total of six inversions per trip at speeds of 47 mph. Despite its initial popularity, the ride became notorious for its rough experience and a highly publicized 1999 incident where a train stalled mid-course, stranding riders for several hours. Following the park’s transition to Six Flags management, it was closed at the end of the 1999 season and relocated to Six Flags New England, where it continues to operate today as Flashback.
