Located in the highly classified Area 72 section of the park, Flight of Fear is a premier indoor launch coaster that takes riders on a high-speed mission through total darkness. When it debuted in 1996, it made history as the world’s first roller coaster to utilize Linear Induction Motor (LIM) technology, a magnetic launch system that catapults the train from 0 to 54 mph in just four seconds. After the initial blast through a launch tunnel, the train enters a massive “spaghetti bowl” of track housed within a 110-foot tall building, where riders navigate four intense inversions—including a cobra roll, a sidewinder, and a corkscrew—without any visual reference of what’s coming next. The experience begins with an immersive queue themed as a secret military hangar containing a captured UFO, making it one of the most heavily themed and atmospheric attractions in the park.
