Opening in 1998 as the signature attraction for the new Hanna-Barbera Land expansion, Scooby’s Ghoster Coaster was a groundbreaking addition as the first Caripro “Batflyer” suspended coaster in the United States. This unique family attraction featured two-person cars that hung from a single rail, providing a gentle swinging sensation as they navigated a compact, twisted layout above the children’s area. Standing 28 feet tall and reaching a top speed of only 11 mph, it was designed to be a high-capacity “first coaster” experience, utilizing a vertical elevator lift rather than a traditional chain hill to whisk riders to the top. Despite its whimsical theme and popularity with kids, the ride was notoriously difficult to maintain and suffered from a very low hourly capacity, leading to long wait times. The ride was ultimately closed and dismantled at the end of the 2005 season during the area’s transition into Nickelodeon Universe, making way for the construction of the Avatar Airbender (now Surf Dog).
