Operating from December 9, 2004, until its permanent closure on August 16, 2023, Flying School was a steel suspended family coaster located in the LEGO® City section of LEGOLAND® Florida Resort. Manufactured by Vekoma, the attraction originally debuted as Swamp Thing during the Cypress Gardens Adventure Park era before being refurbished and re-themed for LEGOLAND’s grand opening in 2011. Standing 50 feet tall and reaching a top speed of 26 mph, the ride featured floorless cars that hung beneath the track, giving riders the sensation of flight as they navigated 1,122 feet of twists and turns. Despite its popularity as a “gateway” thrill for children, the ride was frequently noted for its “rough” ride experience. It was officially retired on National Roller Coaster Day in 2023 and demolished in 2024 to make way for the park’s massive 2026 expansion.
