Opening on March 20, 2018, The Great LEGO® Race is a high-energy steel “Wild Mouse” coaster located in the LEGO® Technic section of LEGOLAND® Florida Resort. Manufactured by Mack Rides, the attraction originally opened with the park in 2011 as Project X before undergoing a major transformation to become the first virtual reality (VR) coaster experience designed specifically for children. While the optional VR headsets—which synchronized the ride’s physical drops and sharp turns with a 360-degree digital race against LEGO minifigures—were phased out post-2020 to improve guest dispatch times, the ride remains a “step-up” thrill for families. Standing 52 feet tall and reaching a top speed of 35 mph, the 1,312-foot track is famous for its “hairpin” switchback turns and a surprising spiral drop that provides more intensity than the park’s other family coasters like Coastersaurus or The Dragon.
