Mako is SeaWorld Orlando’s crown jewel for pure speed and “airtime,” consistently ranked as one of the best hypercoasters in the world. Named after the fastest shark in the ocean, this Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) masterpiece stands 200 feet tall and reaches a top speed of 73 mph without a single inversion. Instead of loops, the ride focuses on a series of massive “camelback” hills designed to provide nine distinct moments of weightlessness, or “floater airtime.” The track—which was actually fabricated at Clermont Steel in Batavia, Ohio, just down the road from you—stretches nearly a mile long and partially traverses over the park’s central lagoon. With its smooth-as-glass ride experience and simple lap-bar restraints, Mako offers a sense of freedom and speed that makes it a favorite for enthusiasts who prefer high-speed thrills over disorienting flips.
