Lightning
Lightning was a wooden roller coaster that operated at the park from 1920 until 1933 during its tenure as Riverside Park. Designed by the legendary Harry Traver, it was part of the infamous “Giant Cyclone Safety Coasters” trio, often referred to as the “Terrifying Triplets” for their extreme and often brutal ride experiences. Standing approximately 100 feet tall, the ride was characterized by a ground-level figure-eight track with steeply banked turns and rapid transitions that created violent lateral forces. Due to high maintenance costs and its aggressive nature, the attraction was dismantled in 1933, making it the shortest-lived of the three Traver “Triplets.”
