Flight of the Hippogriff is a family-friendly junior coaster located in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade at Universal Islands of Adventure. Originally opened in 2000 as the Flying Unicorn, the ride was re-themed in 2010 to feature a “Care of Magical Creatures” lesson led by Hagrid, whose hut and barking dog, Fang, are highlights of the immersive outdoor queue. The experience begins with an encounter with an advanced animatronic of Buckbeak the Hippogriff, who “bows” to riders before the train climbs a 43-foot lift hill that offers some of the best aerial views of Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade. With a top speed of 28.5 mph and a track length of 1,099 feet, the Vekoma-manufactured coaster provides a series of gentle spirals and dives that are perfect for younger wizards who meet the 36-inch height requirement. While it is a relatively short “one-minute” ride, its charm and proximity to Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure make it a popular staple for families and Harry Potter enthusiasts alike.
